Dr. Britt Faucette was recently partnered with Case Western Reserve University based in Cleveland, Ohio and their AIM2Flourish program to promote Filtrexx as a global leader of environmentally sustainable businesses.AIM2Flourish is the world’s first higher education curriculum for the UN Sustainable Development Goals and “Business as an agent of World Benefit”. Their mission is to “Change the story about business from best IN the world, to best FOR the world.” AIM2Flourish provides professors around the world with videos, presentations and materials. They offer monthly video conferences where professors can share experiences and hear what’s new in the program. Professors then bring their learnings to the classroom, teaching students who go out and conduct in-person interviews with business leaders, write stories and contribute to AIM2Flourish.com.

The interview with Dr. Britt Faucette focused on the innovation of Filtrexx and our products. Our removal rates of sediment by our SiltSoxx were a large focus of the innovation section. Our use of organic and recycled materials and the reduction of waste from landfills also landed in the innovation section. However, the big focus was our 2017 environmental impact numbers and what Filtrexx did specifically to help the environment. The tons of sediment entering waterways, waste diverted from landfills and tons of CO2e sequestered from the atmosphere were highlighted in the impact on the environment section. The interview rounded out with focus on our use of regionally-sourced compost, benefitting local businesses and communities.

This week we are celebrating International Compost Awareness Week (ICAW)! As the largest and most comprehensive education initiative of the compost industry, Filtrexx is happy to once again sponsor this great event. ICAW is celebrated throughout the United States as well as several other countries each year. With its inauguration in 1995, many other schools, organizations, businesses and people have joined in to recognize the importance of composting and the long-term health of the environment.

The goal of ICAW is to raise public awareness of the benefits of composting to help maintain healthy soil, grow healthier plants, reduce the use of pesticides, improve water quality and protect the environment. The program includes a poster contest that helps choose the following year’s theme, programs at schools and activities and events promoted through public municipalities, government and local businesses.

The theme of this year’s event is Cool the Climate – Compost! It recognizes the connection between soil health and climate. By composting, carbon captured by plants from the atmosphere is returned to the soil. In addition, the compost, when returned to the soil provides resistance to drought and disease, adds nutrients, improves its workability and reduces the release of nitrous oxide.

During ICAW, businesses, organizations and people are encouraged to celebrate the benefits of composting. Events include tours of compost facilities, school gardening programs, lectures by well-known gardening experts, compost workshops and more. To learn more about planning an event or to share information on an event you’re attending, more information can be found through the Composting Council Research & Education Foundation.
